Behavior Based Interview Questions

Interviewers really like detailed examples when they ask interview questions.  Here is a successful format for answering interview questions and developing examples to create concise, poignant answers.  Practicing using this format will help you stay on point and tell your story in a compelling way.

STAR:

S-situation: describe the situation.

T-task: communicate the task you had to do or challenge you were faced with.

A-action: describe what steps were taken and be specific about your role.

R-results: communicate what the results were, or how you overcame the challenge, and when possible try to quantify the impact of your actions (i.e. ‘this resulted in a $1,000 decrease in cost’)
