Professional and Occupational Licenses for Immigrants

Many jobs require a professional license and these can be difficult to obtain for DACA and Undocumented individuals.  The National Conference of State Legislature site overviews licensure states that have acted to reduce barriers for immigrants to obtain professional licenses through legislation, the governor’s office or creating a task force.

Ten states—California, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming—enacted laws providing licenses for certain populations, such as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, legal immigrants and/or unauthorized immigrants.
